Hi group.
Well having ordered one on Aug 01 when I heard about
them being real, and with the aid of a VP of Canon
Canada as well as my local pro-shop and the manager of
CPS operations (Thanks guys). I finally yesterday
received my new lens. This I am assured is the first
one released as non-demo in Canada as they have
otherwise will not be released here for a couple of
weeks, but given that I hopefully (Canadian air space
being open again) will be leaving for a three week
photo trip on Friday.
So.. The lens works.. and works well. It is much
like my 300f2.8 IS and 600 F4 IS lens in terms of how
the IS system works, which is not the way the manual
states. As to sharpness compared to my non-IS 70/200
f2.8L, tested at 70 and 200 mm, both at f2.8 and f8,
at 70mm wide open the new lens is better, at f8 they
are about the same, At 200mm the new lens wins hands
down! In IS mode, the lens provided sharp, handheld
shots at 200 mm down to 1/30 second (the 1/15 second
was not overly acceptable)
I shot a roll of test target images this morning an
have posted a summary of my finding, images and
impressions on my web site at:
http://www.edwardagnew.com/photogear/phototech.html
It may take a while to down load all the target
images.
As for my older 70/200 it will be available for
purchase in the next few days at Belarte Camera in
Hamilton ONT. 905-545-8877 and talk to Robert
regards
Edward Agnew
