Awww, that's not fair! ;-) Bought one 420EX after bad experiences with the AF. :-) Even after using the 420EX, focusing is not 100% spot on, as I can't always see the AF confirmation light in the viewfinder (wearing glasses; for shots of the fleeting moment of children's expression). So, Canon has succeeded in persuading me to get faster (more $$$$) lens to use with my Elan7e, and even got me to buy a 420EX just by having poor AF in their top amateur camera body. You can even turn off the main flash and only use the IR AF assist feature of 420EX, but my subjects become intrigued by the red light and often squint their eyes a little, giving an awkward look on their face even before the camera achieve focus. Gone was the shot.
Other than that, Elan7e does a good job and I like it, hope you do too. BlueSky *********************** I haven't picked up the photos yet, but the focus did seem proper when I was taking the pictures. I agree about the focus confirmation light. I wear glasses and it is hard to see. That is why I usually turn on the focus confirmation beep. It is annoying,, but at least I know it is in focus. I didn't notice anyone looking at the red assist light, but maybe it'll show up on the photos.
