Subject: EOS 1n, 550EX and OSC2
<<<
I have two 550EX that I utilize with a 50E.
Now I have purchased a 1n, it not supports wireless ETTL nor TTL, only
manual, so I am thinking about purchase a Off Shoe Cord 2 to put the
flashes off the camera. This setup is for macro shots.
The OSC2 is the better cord to do this? Any advice.
TIA

The OCSC2 supports only one flash. To trigger the other one there
are two approaches:

(1) Obtain the Canon flash cords which consist of individual
components: camera unit, splitter, two cords, two flash units.
This is very expensive but does retain TTL capability (as C.P.
Valentine pointed out in the case of the OCSC2 also). The
necessary set of bits and pieces would cost you at least $100
new in the US.

(2) Obtain an Ike-lite remote unit. You connect the first flash
to the camera, either directly or through a Canon cord. You
place the second flash on the Ike-lite remote unit, which has
a Canon-type flash shoe on the top (there's also an Ikelite
remote unit with a Nikon shoe available). Photocells on the
Ikelite unit read the flash from the camera-connected master
flash and make the slave flash fire at the same time and with
the same duration, thus preserving TTL automation on the
slave flash. The Ikelite costs about $100 new in the US.

(3) Set both flashes to manual (as you were assuming you would
have to do) and obtain an ordinary (ca. $20) photocell slave for the
remote one. No TTL automation, but still wireless.
