Start measuring the voltage of your AA lithiums....I believe the
problem originates from the fact that early AA lithiums supplied
1.7-1.9V idle voltage....later lithiums are much closer to the 1.5V
of alkalines (which under load sags to the same 1.2V as NiCd).
