Malcolm/Dieter

I have attempted to view some of the web 3D but can't seem to get the same
effect. I have no problem either with slides through polarized glasses or
the viewers but can't get my eyes to work properly for prints or a computer
screen.

Using a pair of primes should be easier in theory but even then they need
to be matched for stereo. The normal manufacturing tolerances can give
unacceptable results in stereo. e.g. a 1mm deviation in focal length is OK
for a given single lens, but imagine using a 49mm and a 51mm for stereo.
Too large a variance. The same is true for zooms of course but they can be
adjusted with a little effort to match.

I have rigged the 2 x EOS 30s up with a Y connector (3.5mm stereo jacks) to
a remote cable release which should ensure simultaneous shutter release. A
Canon tech tells me I should achieve synchronisation up to 1/1000 without
any problems. Interesting to note how easy this is with EOS bodies.
Apparently other brands give all kinds of problems

Will experiment using 100-400 on one body and 28-135 on the other and let
you know the results.
