What you describe below works for the "PC cord" hotshoe which only has
this small mechanical problem that it is difficult to push the flash
onto it.

The bigger and still unsolved problem however is that the photocell hotshoes
by Hama and others only fire the 550 once.

This problem does not show with the PC cord type of hotshoe.
Note that both types do short the extra pins in the flash foot, at least
the ones from Hama I have do.

Any ideas how to work around the 'fire only once' feature?
