80-200/2.8 which makes a comparison more difficult. Anyways, the 80-200/2.8
does focus considerable faster then the 28-135. As a matter of fact I was
amazed how fast it is considering that it does not have an USM motor but an
ARC.

I disagree. I have the 28-135mm IS lens and it is very fast AF, I also have
(on loan) a Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8L and I do not see the AF any faster than
the 28-135mm IS lens. In fact, I think the 28-135 is faster probably due to
its lower mass.
