So, after a seven week wait my new while waiting I bought another rechargeable battery on ebay. If the price is not approximately $45, the battery is not a Canon brand. I also purchased an IBM 1 GB MicroDrive. Yup, no more film costs, processing, etc.
Off we go from Hartford to Los Angeles for a long weekend with daughter and granddaughter. Drive to San Francisco for a few days at the wharf and then off to Yosemite. Great vistas, photo ops, and family. All the time I'm bragging "only 700 more pictures on this chip". We get home and I preview the 500+ pictures that I took and most of them are great. I am very, very pleased. The next day I go to download them onto my laptop and the MicroDrive seizes. A muted electronic squeal and no output. The reader doesn't recognize the chip and when in the camera, nothing happens. I'm sick. I email IBM and call them the next day and we discuss all the options. I've done just about everything. They are willing to exchange the drive but the date is my problem. I emailed a recovery company and they quoted me $400-1200. With nothing left to lose I put the drive back into the reader and when it started to squeal I banged it into my palm....it came unstuck and I quickly downloaded the data. It was a better day then. I did send the drive back for replacement and that day the rebate ($50) arrived in the mail. Now I plan to use a few different chips and spread the wealth and protect the data. Sorry to have run on so long and probably others have had the same problem, but after such a great trip it was traumatic. Live and learn! Capt. Grant W.
