I've often dreaded that scenario.

The idea of using a few 128M cards during the trip would provide a hedge
against drive failure.  With moving parts, I've always assumed a drive
has more potential to fail than a solid state memory card.  Not sure
this is true, but that is what it seems to me.

Maybe there is failure/reliability data on the web for cards, drives.
Just last night I was imagining a camera that had room for two redundant
cards each of which was written with the same data.  Storage is
(relatively) inexpensive and card slots are small, so this seems doable.

Even worse than losing your own memories would be to lose a wedding
client's memories.  I'm so glad that your story had a happy ending.

So, after a seven week wait my new while waiting I bought another
rechargeable battery on ebay.  If the price is not approximately $45,
the battery is not a Canon brand.  I also purchased an IBM 1 GB
MicroDrive. Yup, no more film costs, processing, etc.
