If a pro is worth anything then that individual must surely be trading at a profit i.e. annual income = X+, annual expenditure =X. On that basis then every year the old accountant man will present the pro with a tax assesment based upon the last years income/expenditure account. Assuming a taxable profit is there before the revenue see it, the accountant will extract an allowance for capital expenditure which means that over a period a pro pays less in tax and some in purchase charges, one wiping out the other which means that over a period the pro pays less tax and uses what would have been tax to purchase capital equipment. What this ends up as is free equipment. Under such a set of conditions the cost of a digital camera spread over 3-5 years is offset by tax allowances so the pro pays nothing for the gear in the end. Now then, when he comes to replace the purchase, if it sells at a reasonable sum he/she will have to pay tax on a capital gain. Some organisations will discount the value and supply a replacement at a lower cost but show the original item as a write off so no tax get paid. On that basis the pro ends up getting their equpment entirely free so it hardly matters what the manufacture choses to charge out at. For the amateur things are different............Im an amateur and I object >So, we 1V users may see our current body as a kind of like pinnacle of >Canon film camera technology, a model that was so good that no better film >camera was ever developed.....:-) ================================================== hang on a minute there squire, just hang on will you........ Let us imagine if you will, that some enterprising technically orientated entrepreneur comes along and says something like the following...... There are X,000,000 conventional film cameras out there squire and I think I can make money out of this situation.....for starters I'm going to offer a replacement digital back.......and then.........hey I'm going to offer all the Nikon users a Canon lens conversion facility, and so on and so on...... I see a good future for us amateurs with analogue imaging equipment and I particularly see a low cost conversion future......frankly I can hardly wait. * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
