Hi Mike,

I did find a generic-brand rubber eyecup that would fit my EOS 1000FN with
its Eb sized eyepiece (that is the same size as the one on the EOS-1 and the
Elan). While not as large and bulky as the Ed-E eyecup, it is more
substantial than the original Eb rubber bumper that came with (and fell off)
my camera.

I bought it to scavenge the rubber eyecup to fit it on my Angle Finder B to
prevent it adding more scratches to my prescription glasses :-(

Strangely, the accessory eyecup was meant to be compatible with Pentax or
Minolta (I forget which).  Perhaps you could try an off-brand one, since
they are cheaper than the Canon alternative. It looked something like this:
