Franklin, For the most part Promaster and Quantaray are, well, they're not totally useless. They can always be used as bad examples. If you want good images, avoid these. Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina are better and in some cases really good. The newer Sigmas are really good according to reports. You can check lens tests at http://www.photodo.com.
