Hi, I have the non-IS EF 300 f4 L and the 1.4x extender. Unless you're shooting in very bright light, my experience, with Provia 100F in the UK, is that you'll be shooting wide open or close to wide open much of the time, particularly with the 1.4x extender in use. So I'd advise checking what the reports say for full aperture performance. I'm very pleased with my lens which I use on an EOS3. With this camera and the 1V, I guess, it is worth while experimenting with the CFs to get the best combination when shooting birds.
