Okay, I'm sure this has been bandied about before, but with the advent of the 1Ds maybe it's time to revisit. The file sizes possible here are big enough, finally, to match my typical scan, but I'm curious as to what the markets are actually accepting. I'm currently shooting all film (Canon 1v), primarily Nature & Travel photography. I scan when I need to, but that is time consuming. I'm attracted by the convenience of going digital with the 1Ds, but wonder what impact that will have on the marketability of my work. I've got some images with Alamy & plan for more, so I guess as far as stock is concerned, I wonder if Alamy and it's all digital ilk have a broad enough customer base yet to be one's sole stock outlet, or if they still need to be supplemented with film sales? Similarly, is digital acceptance in the Editorial and Fine Arts marketplace for my subject matter sufficient to go all digital, or are there still over-riding marketplace advantages to shooting film and scanning as needed? Paul Wasserman Hi Paul, In the real world I think how well digital is accepted depends heavily on the location and how much experience the agency has with working digital. For example in my small town in SoCal. 10 minutes out of downtown Los Angeles digital is a distant, not yet cost effective way to work. In LA there are digital prep houses all over town, practically on every corner. Different agencies have differing views, the real determining factor in digital or film is the client and agency AD and again experience counts. So mostly here in LA, IMO it seems mostly to depend on if they've had good or bad experiences with digital workflows and been lucky enough to get good output.
