AF sensitivity depends on the chip being used. the much cheaper CMOS sensor (used in EOS 3) can never match the sensitivity of the CCD sensor (used in Maxxum 9 and canon '1' series models i believe) , that's physics... OTOH although CMOS isn't as light sensitive as CCD, the noise is patterned therefore can be successfully reduced with software.
