Well, for what it's worth, the only sample I've seen of this effect
was from a 1Ds, with an extreme wide angle, and close to the corners.
And it's certainly due to the angle the light hits the sensors.

I've never seen it on my 10d, with a 20mm lens attached.
I've heard of software that corrects it though :-)
