To grab Oly users they would need to make it wider still.  Maybe a 14-60?
The is the 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC coming out though.  Not as fast as you want,
nor as long.  28.8mm - 80mm equiv.  But it is close.

What I'm looking for shouldn't be that hard:  16 (or
17) to 60mm, f2.8 to 4.  APS-C sized sensor coverage. 
I'm no big fan of Sigma (all but one of my lenses are
Canon), but if Sigma made this lens I think they'd
sell a ton of them to Canon D30, D60, and 10D owners,
as well as Sigma, Nikon, Olympus and (soon) Minolta
digital SLR owners.
