Yes, fortunately, manual focusing allows me to focus AND compose and I've actually 
found myself using manual focus more and more lately.  Regrettably, I don't always 
remember to set the lens switch back to AF.

I suspect there is some legitimate reason behind it and hope it's not just a lack of 
thought by Canon engineers or the lack of people even suggesting it to Canon.  Sure 
would love to know the truth though!

I'm hoping something will do it.  I'd be willing to even limit focus tracking to an 
area like the 45 point zone but just give me a few more outside sensors for focusing 
only (I guess adding metering to those extra points would be asking too much).
