I've never regretted my TC-80N3 purchase.  If you have use of all of the 
extras it's well worth it.  The timer is the main reason I use it.  When 
I'm taking shots of the moon I use my telescope as my lens and my camera 
can be set to evenly space the image on the frame as the moon travels 
across it.  You can do this without the timer but it makes a huge 
difference in getting nice, even, multiple disks across the frame.  I've 
also found it handy to have more than just the cameras 10 second timer when 
trying to get big group shot.  Something about waiting longer for the 
camera to take the photo that gets people laughing.  Makes for more smiles 
in the pictures.
