EOS How to use RAW + JPEG?

Another  new-to-DSLR question.   I may not be seeing the obvious 
reasons for having the camera shoot simultaneous different file 
formats.  About all I can think of is when you want to get something 
on the web quickly, or email to an editor for publication approval or 
something like that, RAW to  be optimized later.  If you use this 
feature, how?
