I discriminate against hand proping because an aviator that I respected
lost
his arm doing such.
When an Ercouping buddy asked for a hand start, I used my `coupe battery
that I had just got off
the charger instead.  Parked it on the wing and the jumper cables worked
just fine.

Don't know about safer...but why not just hand-prop the next time you fly,
and let your plane charge the battery?
