Al,

Your split elevator should have a range of movement of up 20? and down 10?
(4.9" up, 2.5" down).

By the old documents I've read, the pre-loaded spring should be adjusted
so,
when the controls are up against the spring, you should be gliding at 65
mph. Then, if you pull through the spring, you should get to the full 20?
up travel for minimum flying speed (which you'd only do inches to a couple
of feet above the runway).

I sure don't know how to get it that way.

What's the model of your Coupe? If it's an "E" or later, it needs no
paperwork for the split elevator since it came from the factory with one.
If it's a C, D or CD model, it should have a signed-off form 337 to be
legal
with a split elevator and Greg is right that a few STUPID FAA wienies have
turned down paperwork for a few people around the country when they tried
to
make this upgrade.

On the other hand, there're probably fewer than five FAA wienies
nationwide
who would detect the upgrade unless the elevator were a factor in an
accident and they did extensive research. Some insurance companies might
refuse to pay in such a case.

Fred Weick, the Coupe's designer, told me he thought the split elevator
was
a very good idea and he wished he had thought of it himself. He put a lot
of effort into having the Coupes fly the same at idle and full power and
that's just what the split elevator does by letting the slipstream go
through the split.

I finly got me a coupe and got to wondering about the amount of pressure
exerted when I pulled back on the yoke .The Plane has a new Stab.with a
split
elevator. It had a problem with the trim tab. so When I got too looking it
did
not appear to have any down elevator and certianly no easy range untill i
hit
a stop .I took off the tail cone and the spring is Huge and hooked
directly
to the elevator bellcrank .I suspect that it is out of rig as well as not
properly installed .Does Any one by anychance have any instructions on the
installation, rigging and so forth of this spring and The split elevator
