Yes, indeed. In N2906H I had a vernier throttle. The short-field technique was to
come in slow with a bit of power and when a couple of feet above the ground
just 'shut off the faucet.' As I'd twist left, the plane would settle, and I'd end up
with a soft, short landing.

I find it hard do this the quadrant in N99387. So for short fields I just come over
the fence at 75 and get way slow in ground effect, power off. Doing that I end
up way shorter than the shortest field (400-600 feet).
