Bayne [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, January 13, 2006 10:44 AM To: Ed Burkhead Subject: WRB Re: [COUPERS-FLYIN] FW: Throttle quadrant RLYFLYIN Hi John, Erco made only a very few 415-D Models (far, far less than the jump in serials from 4424 to 4500) because of the unexpected elevator limitation demanded by the CAA ( 9 degrees instead of 13 degrees) for operation at 1400 lbs. gross weight. They felt handling quality of their new "D" Model was too adversely affected to market successfully, but inventory and engineering changes had already effectively ended production of the preceding Model 415-C. The "solution" was to re-certify the D Model as the "CD Model - same exact plane but now a "later model" certified under Type Certificate Data Sheet 718 (at 1260 lbs. gross) instead of TCDS 787 (1400 lbs. gross). The Model CD was merely a "stopgap" solution until Erco could figure out how to get the 1400 lb. gross with reasonable elevator movement. It was the "sizzle" and not the "steak", but it gave dealers and purchasers the "latest and greatest". Dealers with significant inventory of older "C" Models after the cosmetically different "CD" Model was out found customers would not buy a "C" Model without substantial markdown. Accordingly, the factory sent technicians out to convert these "C" Models to the later "CD" Models. The few original "D" Models were all converted to the new "CD" specification at the request of their owners. Regards, William R.
