CitiCards offers a Platinum Rewards Card which offers a nice rebate on purchases from gas stations, grocery stores, and pharmacies (they count for double what purchases from other merchants do). You have to go to their website and ask them to send you the check once your "points" add up past a certain amount, but it's something, at least. You'll need to ask them if fuel purchases from FBOs count the same as from gas stations... they probably never thought of it, but given the price of AvFuel these days, I'm sure they'd love to "get a piece of the action" in terms of the dispensing merchants paying them for the buyer using one of their cards to do so.

I have run into other circumstances where gas companies try to entice new customers into getting their cards by offering a significant discount on purchases of their fuel which are paid for via their own card. Shell isn't the first to do this - I've seen it at other fuel stops also, but don't remember off-hand which ones they are. I think their strategy in doing so is that if you have one of their fuel cards, then you'll be more inclined to purchase from them using your card to get a discount, than to purchase from one of their competitors. And in today's world of increasing "plastic money" rather than paying in cash, it's basically a sound marketing strategy.

I recently refueled at Vero Beach (KVRB) SHELLself serv pumps. A note on the pump said there was a 50 cent/gal discount if a SHELL Aviation credit card was used. I appied for one and received it within a week. The SHELL fuel at my home field (KFPR), only a few miles from KVRB, is the same as theirs, but no discount is offered. Do any of you have any experience with this, or with other credit cards? I do have the MBNA/AOPA Mastercard that provides 5% rebate for fel purchases, but it is lImited to $250/year total rebates for FBO purchases.
