Hi Dennis,
I have a single fork nose gear with the smaller 5.0-4 tire. I've been flying my Coupe for 8 years and well over 1100 hours with the single fork nose gear and smaller tire, and it works just fine for me. I think the single fork is more than acceptable as long as it is maintained.

I have noticed that the tires tend to wear a bit faster on one side with the single fork however that could be my plane or just my own ignorance about proper tire care for the nose gear tire. Others can comment on this point.

The tires are not hard to come by however; they are not cheap. You can try the usual Ercoupe parts sources such as Skyport or Univair. I believe that Dresser Tire (Montebello, CA & Memphis, TN) also has them ,and last time I checked they were selling the 5.00-4 tire for the discounted price of $178.00 (the quoted 'normal retail' price of $300.00 is obscene IMHO).

Switching to a single fork nose gear won't be cheap either, and you may need to add spacers to the main gear to keep the correct attitude on the ground for landing & takeoff.

I'm a relative novice when it comes to Coupe issues, so I'm sure someone out there can add to this or may have a different perspective.

Regards,
Dan Hall

thank you to all who are helping me, my ercoupe is nothing like the
Cherokee's I'm used too! ok I ordered a new 5.00-4 tire and tube and what a
job finding one, there must be a reason they sell only maybe 2 per year,
should I be replacing my single arm to a fork, then go with the full axle
and wheel design?---------Dennis Otto N99935
