And what does this have to do with flying or
Ercoupes???????????????????
DICK NANCY & SOPHIE
I thought it sounded like an admirable feat of "high-speed low-level
contour flying sans aircraft" as well as an incredible adventure story
to me. And every aviator I've ever met shared a sense of adventure and
usually a love of either speed, or wind in their faces, or all of the
above. Most seem to love motorcycles as well.
Many of us here on this list recently shared how much we love
motorcycles and sports cars in addition to airplanes and sports cars
(including my husband and myself), so I don't consider Spook's post to
be something which isn't of interest to probably the majority of
Coupers, plus it was clearly labeled "Off Topic". I don't remember you
ever jumping anyone else for sharing about motorcycles, Dick - so why
are you now jumping on Spook? Why are you being so persnickety about a
post which was clearly labeled "Off Topic" so those who don't want to
read about anything but Ercoupes could simply use their delete key?
Dan Hall and Don Bowen and John Silberman and Ed Burkhead and Dennis
Spiegel all posted that they thought it was of interest to Coupers -
and I'm sure a lot of people who didn't post also found it very
interesting.
I think it is time for this on-going problem to be addressed ....
I for one (and I know for a fact that I'm by far not the only one) am
getting darned tired of a very few
too-rudely-confrontational/too-outspoken people on this list driving a
great many others into just "lurking" Too many members have become
apprehensive or fearful of posting anything for fear of being jumped on
by some cranks who take exception to a post in a distinctly
hostile-sounding way for whatever puerile reason they tell themselves
as self-justification for their rudely confrontational behaviors.
Others feel they have to set themselves up in "combat warrior mode"
whenever they decide to post in order to deal with the few bullies on
the list. It seems to many of us like a few "schoolyard bullies" have
taken over the Coupe Flyin list and have decided to act as
self-appointed censors.
I know that after I was publicly jumped not long ago, I had several
people write to me privately that they were afraid to post anything on
the Coupe Flyin list for fear of being attacked - either because they
had been attacked in the past, or they didn't want to risk being
attacked like they saw others being attacked. Others wrote to me to
ignore the attackers as unworthy, and that they just go into "warrior
mode" in preparation for posting, knowing that they may well be
attacked simply for posting.
Soooo .....
For those Coupers who want to be free to talk about Ercoupes, various
General Aviation topics, flying in general, and lots of other things
which may be of interest to Coupers (like motorcycles and sports cars
and good jokes, etc.) without fear of being jumped on by some cranky
stiff-necked "schoolyard bully type" apparently lacking in any patience
or consideration for others, please feel free to join the new "friendly
and not limited to just Coupes" Coupe-HangerFlyin list in addition to
maintaining your membership on these Couper Flyin and Tech lists and
other Coupe forums. This new list in no way competes with nor is
intended to replace any of the other Coupe-oriented lists - it simply
provides a friendly venue for those of us who would simply like to be
able to relax and share stories, jokes, etc. on-line on a "safe" list
where personal attacks and rudeness aren't allowed, rather than being
forced to share your non-Coupe-related thoughts via private emails
only.
If you'd like to join, go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Coupe-HangerFlyin and click "Join This
Group" on the right-hand side of the home page. Alternatively, send an
email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The Coupe-HangerFlyin list is set up to be just like sitting around in
an openly friendly hanger in comfortable old chairs, sharing stories
and jokes and being able to relax and have fun together without some
spoilsport ruining the party - something which is obviously not being
allowed here on the Flyin list. Ground rules are easy - agree to
disagree respectfully (everyone has the right to their own opinion,
even if you don't agree with it - you can disagree, but just disagree
respectfully) and basically behave like friendly adults who get
together to relax and enjoy each other's company in a friendly social
setting, figuring everyone has something worthwhile to share.
Questions are welcomed, not only to help those who are lacking
knowledge to learn and gain good knowledge but also to help those who
have such knowledge feel good about sharing it and in so doing, helping
to clarify their own understanding. (There's an old adage that one
learns best by teaching others)
Everyone is welcome to join, but if someone continually violates the
common-sense, common-courtesy rules (they'll get a couple of fair
warnings to give them a chance to learn to behave better), they will be
escorted out the door the same as if they were physically present in
someone's home or hanger and acted rudely or attacked another
especially without provocation or rational justification.
Again, [EMAIL PROTECTED] is in no way, shape, or form
designed to replace this or any other group, or Jason's very worthwhile
bulletin board group and highly informative website, or any other Coupe
informational source - it is set up simply to complement all the other
outlets. It is simply a much-needed additional outlet for those
looking for a friendlier place to hang out and share stories, jokes,
interesting tidbits which may or may not have anything to do directly
with Ercoupes or flying but which many of us may find interesting and
worth reading and responding to, and who prefer to receive emails
directly rather than have to go to a website to read posts.
In the horse world, we have numerous lists even just within the one
breed I am primarily involved with, and just about everyone belongs to
most or all of them. Each list serves different needs, but all serve a
group of people with common interests.
It looks like there's such a need in the aviation world for the Coupe
Group as well, and thus [EMAIL PROTECTED] was born.
All are welcome to come join, but those who behave like cranky
schoolyard bullies will not be tolerated there and will not be allowed
to continue to enjoy membership if they violate the ground rules.

Subject: [COUPERS-FLYIN] OFF TOPIC: For anyone who loves motorcycles
and a good story

Howdy,
Yesterday, I was fortunate to see the film, "The World's Fastest
Indian".
If you have a fondness for Indian motorcycles, racing, and Bonneville,
I think you will like this movie. Even if motorcycles and racing are
not you cup of tea, it's a very good and true story.
It's the story of New Zealander Burt Munro and his dream of setting a
land speed record at Bonneville with his old Indian. He didn't have
much money. Of course, New Zealand is a loooonnnng way from Utah.
What he went through to get to Bonneville and be able to run there is
a testament to a truly indomitable spirit.
Burt did set a record in 1967 at the age of 68. The record he set, for
that particular class of motorcycle, has yet to be broken!
It's a wonderful movie, inspirational and satisfying. I don't think
you will be disappointed.
Oh, to top it all off, Anthony Hopkins plays Burt Munro. He's such a
good actor and I hear that New Zealanders say he got the accent down
perfectly.
Here's a link to the website about the film.
