I envy you.

I haven't flown since Thanksgiving.

My engine is still missing in transit because the overhaul shop wrote down the wrong zip code.  We *think* it is somewhere here in Nashville... what was to be a 2 day delivery is now just over a week.

I'm still waiting on a good time to have the NDT come and do the SB32 inspection.

I need to check my electrics now since finding an undocumented 20 Amp noise filter on my 60 Amp Alternator-Battery line.  Probably will install 6 guage wiring (shielded? dunno if I need bother).

While pulling off the tie wrapped wires on the engine mount, I found intentionally hidden damage (looks like it has been there many, many years)... the A&P is going to do a repair patch on it.

While messing with all this, I'm installing a baggage compartment, new aluminum window inner skins, manufacturing an oil sump baffle and gussets, installing replacement beacon and strobes, Tannis heater (done), TSO's instruments (a couple were identified as not compliant for IFR use), etc...

And finally, after seeing Syd's 'coupe on his way to Sun-N-Fun, I've been giving serious thought at touching up the appearance (finish the paint scheme and getting all that oil off the belly).

When is next year's Sun-N-Fun scheduled?  I *might* be ready by then.  LOL!

I'm actually amazed at how calm I am about all this.

I rarely post to the list, and when I do it's usually a question (except for when I passed my checkride - had to gloat), but I did write a post asking to please stop the reprints of AOPA articles. I didn't mean to get upset, but the flood of these kind of took me aback.

One thing I promise, I will NEVER take a shot at ANYBODY speaking his or her mind on the list, as long as there is some vague relevance. I'll still not like reprints of existing articles or posts, or political or environmental ramblings that do nothing but raise the ire of a percentage of the list (regardless of political leaning). But if someone likes motorcycles, well, I ride a BMW, and I'll bet the majority of us ride motorcycles. If it's an opinion on a general aviation topic, I'll bet no one would mind. If it's news about a local airport or an EAA chapter, I'd like to think we'd all be interested.

As for me, I will not snipe at anybody about any posts to the FLYIN list. If the traffic takes a turn in a direction I can't stand, I'll just unsubscribe. I promise not to be a nuisance to anyone.

On topic:

I just got a call from Central Cylinder - they have test run my old C-75, now C-85 with an O-200 crankshaft, and they said it runs great. They will have the spin on oil filter adapter on Tuesday, and then it goes over to Advanced Air in Council Bluffs to be put back on the plane. The annual (including triennial center section AD) is already complete. I may be flying my baby home in a week or so! I haven't flown since March 5, when I flew it up to Council Bluffs. I'm really anxious to get back in the air - and I'm pretty sure now I'll make it to Oshkosh for the Coupes, Cubs, Champs and Chiefs flyin! Life is good.

Sorry I'm rambling...

I really hate to be firing a shot this late and especially since it’s beginning to look like the attacks on people like Susan, Georgia, myself, and a few others have begun to settle, at least temporarily.  However, it has taken me several days to look back through two years of saved mail to refresh my memory but that research has shown my initial thoughts correct.

I cannot find an instance of the people who regularly actually answer questions and regularly provide factual information to the members of this list, attacking another member for an off topic post.  There have been suggestions of taking a prolonged dialogue off of the list.

Likewise, I have yet to find any substantial contribution to the list by those who seem to be the self appointed topic police, and are sitting like Big Brother, watching, and waiting to pounce on someone for a post that they personally do not agree with.

While I agree, that there are some items that belong on the tech list and some that belong only on flyin, I disagree with anyone trying to tell me or anyone else what I might talk to another person about at a flyin and that is essentially what has been happening here for several days.  On the other side of that, I do recommend that extended personal exchanges, whether on topic or off, be conducted directly rather than through the list.

As for the off topic, or even on topic, messages that I don’t want to read; I have a delete button.  I don’t own a motorcycle, I am not going to Sun & Fun, I do not need to read 46 different versions of how to install a voltage regulator, discussions on wheel fairings do not interest me, I really don’t care much about a movie that is a promo for one airport, etc, etc.  Guess what I do with those?  I do however value those considerably more than I do the personal attacks that have been getting far too frequent in the last year.

Spook, as far as I can tell, you followed the rules.  You labeled your post about the movie as off topic, you noted that it might not be of interest to everyone, and you kept it short.  No harm, no foul.

Susan, I applaud both you and Jason for your efforts to provide other avenues of discussion and I may join your list also, as I have Jason’s, but I feel a sense of ownership of and to this list and I think that rather than running away to a different list, I will stay and defend this one.  We have allowed the Big Brothers to silence too many already.

A little tolerance and patience, combined with some discretion will bring this list back to the dignified level of discussion that it occupied not so long ago.

I know the flak is coming, so bring it on.  I will calmly and politely discuss almost anyone’s thoughts; just remember, I have a delete button and I know how to use it.

Tommy
