Fred,

How can you say that? As a banker, you surely recognize that the entire
principal of banking is essentially to get “something for nothing.”

A bank:

* lends more money than it actually has,

* to collect interest on money it did not actually have for lending in
the first place,

* while it minimizes the possibility that it might be forced to actually
pay for what it gets,

* by requiring security against the property of the borrower who never
really received cash anyway, only a check for money that the bank didn’t really
have.

Once you get a handle on that, it’s hard to be sympathetic toward banking in
general.

As best I can tell, if I undertook similar activity, I would be prosecuted.

(See, there, law school DID teach me something.)

I am President of a bank and we get sick and tired of people trying to get
something for nothing. Think back in your life and tell me the last time
someone offered you a few hundred, thousand or million dollars for nothing. It
takes us time and expense to run down those bogus checks and if it should
happen to get one through, you will be the one that pays when (not if) it comes
back unpaid. When you deposit a check, you assume the full responsibility for
the collection of the check. You got the funds and should have received goods
and services of equal value. If the funds are no good, you pay the bank for
your responsibility. WE CANNOT PROTECT PEOPLE FROM THEIR OWN GREED. If you
deal with these people, you get what you deserve (and if you think that is
money, you are wrong). You will get a good education and empty pockets.

Fred
