Bob It will be wise to be careful here because runway length doesn't answer
all the variables involved. I have generally always flown Cubs and Champs
off grass and the situation forever changes . Having said that, I do prefer
grass as long as it is real smooth. Frost can have a bad effect on
smoothness if runway is on a clay soil. No two grass fields are the same.
Keep it wide as possible and no ditches in either direction. A sandy loam
can be nicely drained and is easier to maintain I believe. I like grass
even if it does require more length.

ps: flew yesterday locally, skis on, runway packed snow, about two feet
deep, grass down there somewhere.
will keep skis on for another month or more. Cheers

Subject: [COUPERS-TECH] Turf Runway Length

Hi All...

I'd like to hear from anyone who has a runway on their property.

In particular, minimum length required, width required and any other
thoughts on what one should loook at in putting in a strip.

Cheers

Hardware Bob
