Grass is great,,lot of mowing necessary but still great. I've called 2
grass fields home for my 85hp Coupe. 49C is 2150' X 75' with trees at the
south end. Always broke ground at the midway point with plenty of time in
ground effect to build speed to clear trees Keeping in mind that warm days
= light weight passengers.
64C is 1750"X100" with a 300' overrun at the west end. Trees at the west
end and about a 10' dip at the west end markers. Using the overrun can hit
the dip at around 35mph for a little added umph. Using this can get lift
off just past the dip even with up to a 5mph tail wind. East end is clear
of trees.
Being in SE WISC, snow does put the kabash on flying. On the other hand I
do frequent C89 which is 2275'X30' and paved. From pattern altitude, that
30' looks like you're landing on a strip of masking tape. Moral of the
story is if your fairly clear of trees, and want to carry passengers, try
for at least 2200' by at least 75' and plan for a gang mower of at least
10' behind your tractor.
Most important, make sure your neighbors are content with you putting in a
landing strip.
