Last August, I flew my 415-C alone back from Sequim, WA, down through OR and to So. Cal. My route south was from Sequim to Kelso-Longview (overnight with friends), to Eugene (overnight), then a fuel stop at Siskiyou and over Redding down to Columbia (overnight at the restored mining town), then a fuel stop at Tehachapi, and home to Torrance. It was a good routing, and I'd use it again: follows the main road (Interstate-5), has lots of airports with fuel & hotels along the way. In case of adverse weather, as I had up in Oregon, I'd stop and wait it out, rather than take a "new" (untried) Ercoupe over mountains where fuel & emergency stops are few & far between.
One caution: I had originally been sorely tempted to fly along the beautiful California coast, but was advised against it by the Ercouper I followed northward (Wing Director, Dan Hall), because the coast has far fewer airports that have fuel and is much, MUCH more likely to have adverse weather (marine layer, coastal low clouds/fog) than is the Calif. Central Valley along I-5. HTH -- and have fun! Linda N3437H (Sky Sprite) L.A.
