While AOPA has already tried and the FAA refused, I think the real solution is to dump the 3rd Class Med. from Rec. Pilot. I believe it is only a matter of time. AOPA has the statistics that med. is not the problem in aviation the FAA makes it seem to be. (How many Sport, glider & balloon pilots clobbering in with heart attacks -or whatever- do you see / hear in the news?) Indeed, I believe PP will some day lose the 3rd Class requirement, but I don't anticipate living that long. If AOPA keeps plugging away at the Rec. Pilot issue, that should help a lot.
