I'm not trying to minimize the expense; but I've flown a Cherokee
6 for past 15 years (sold it in Sept
and bought a coupe) and my annual expenses have always been right
at $5,000 including gas
and oil. (I'll admit I do "cheat" by having my own airstrip and
hanger at home).
Many of my friends spend more than this on: golf, country club
memberships, boating, motorcycles,
etc. Seems the more fun the hobby the more expensive it gets.

It's amazing that when we take an airline how frustrated we get
while looking out the window and see only clouds. There's no fun
until the plane breaks out, that's fun for me. In my coupe 93%
of the time I'm looking out the window. About 7% I'm
unconsciously checking altitude, heading and instruments, etc.
After over 60 years of flying I still can't explain how much fun
it truly is. That's why we fly-right!
It's an expensive (& going to be even more expensive) hobby.
Let's enjoy and have fun while we can.
