I'm a bit disappointed by Syd's comments regarding the en-masse arrivals
especially because he's such a key part of that airshow. What you should know
is that last year we safely landed and exited 100 Bonanza's in about 10
minutes. With the normal flow and status quo, 10 minutes lands about 15
airplanes on the dots many doing the dangerous slow flight dance and a few
others going around. How long would it take to land 100 Bonanzas with everyone
cutting in line and disregarding the tower instruction?

And by the way, we ALL have to have the arrival procedures (available through
EAA NOW) on board in case there are difficulties with the flight, so Syd's
recommendation for everyone to use the Fisk arrival is proper.

I asked for last year's letter of rebuttal to an individual who saw it fit to
publicly complain to the EAA that he was delayed an hour. I'll post it when it
arrives because it was well done and explains the procedure fully. Until then
here's a reply from another Bonanza owner when I made the query.

"I just received the printed Oshkosh NOTAM in yesterday's mail from the EAA.
On page 28 there is a Section "Large Formation Arrivals" that explains the mass
arrivals increase efficiency but the last sentence reads "Other traffic using
the Fisk VFR arrival to Oshkosh may be paused during these large formation
arrivals." I'm afraid the readers of this section will not understand the
significance of the increase of efficiency of a large formation arrival but
will be unhappy with the possible "pausing" of the VFR arrivals. Note this
"pausing" only will occur in certain wind conditions which would preclude the
use of runways 36L and 36R or possibly 18L and 18R for the large formation
arrival, while the VFR arrivals can continue
simultaneously on the east west runway."

Enjoy OSH, fly safely and don't forget the sunscreen and camera and if you're
lucky I'll buy you a beer!

Right. None of them mentioned Ercoupes because I never use the "sanitized
airspace" procedure that the Mooneys, Bonanzas, etc. use. We just come in
using the normal Fisk arrival procedure. There are 2 reasons for this:

  1. I want all the Ercoupers to experience the normal Fisk arrival procedure
so if they ever want to come to AirVenture on their own, not in our flight,
they know what to expect.
  2. I really think it's unfair that the Mooneys, etc. are able to totally
disrupt the inbound traffic for their arrival. All inbounds are shut off and
told to go elsewhere or hold for about an hour while they make their grand
arrival. We just blend into the flow of inbounds.

I thought of a third reason yesterday, but can't think of it now (getting
old). Anyway, that's why we're not mentioned.

There seems to be a lot of press on various groups doing group
flights into OSH this years yet none of them mentioned Ercoupes.
