A couple of weeks ago, I ferryed N2013T, a wonderful 1946 Ercoupe to its new
owner, John Pound. I departed Spruce Creek Airport which is located 5 miles
from the Atlantic ocean, flew to Frostproof, Florida to pick up my good friend,
Lynn Nelsen, and landed five days later in southern California, close to the
Pacific Ocean. We only had one bad weather day which kept us grounded. Day
one provided us a bit of a tailwind but all the following days had the wind
blowing on our nose, and often with a vengence. Notice one of the pictures
showing our ground speed on the GPS at one MPH! Flying low and slow (very
slow) across America is in awesome experience, quite literally. From the
beauty bends of the powerful Mississippi River to the deserts of Texas and
Arizona to the majestic Rocky Mountains to the deep valleys of California,
shadowed by eleven thousand foot mountains, crossing our country in a
sixty-three year old airplane with an eighty-five horsepower engine is a
remarkable experience. John has one of the nicest Ercoupe around and will have
many glorious flying hours ahead of him. Glen
