In the central Texas area, in my capacity as an IA, I have been asked by the
FAA SATFSDO to go look at planes involved in accidents with no serious injury
or loss of life.. (Guess the FAA is trying to save money, San Antonio is over
100 miles from here)) I only concerned myself with contributing causes, they
didn't even send logs. (One was a Cessna 152 that landed in a tree short of the
runway. residual fuel only in the tanks, none in the carb or gascolator.)

There is another scenario Ed. When there is any sort of mishap, maybe as simple
as running over a runway light. My brother is one of the feds that show up and
decide about things. ANY item such as that showing up changes it from a butt
chewing to serious action against the pilot.
I don't sweat ramp checks and such, but the check after a small incident can
have some serious consequences, even if the discrepancy had absolutely nothing
to do with the incident..
