Checked in.  (Is the "else" code assuming that there's exactly one byte
of whitespace?  Section 6.6 of RFC 2543 says

        The field value MAY be preceded by any amount of leading white
        space (LWS), though a single space (SP) is preferred.

so there's no guarantee that it's zero or one bytes.)
