Thanks very much Guy, I got the clue. I had /usr/X11R6/lib/libz.a and and a null response to nm -p etc on that file. I renamed it temporarily and ethereal found zlib and compiled. Maybe I should just make /usr/X11R6/lib/libz.a a symlink to the good /usr/lib/libz.a. Geoff __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
