It sounds like you removed the = sign when you changed those lines. If in doubt, post the contents of /etc/ethercat.conf.

Building and configuration seem to be OK. I use systemd to run Ethercat master as a service. I configured « Ethercat.conf » by filling « MASTER0_DEVICE » with my MAC address and « DEVICE_MODULES » with « e1000 ».
