The GNOME VFS is going to be replaced. This mail discusses some of

I don't know how much of it is also applicable to Etoile, but it
might be interesting and useful to look at what they're dealing
with, and learn from their experience when creating Etoile's file
system.
I read this mail, well… it seems the next version of GNOME VFS will
share some design choices with CoreObject unlike the previous one.
Anyway it's interesting for me to read about their experience as you
said (specially when you consider GNOME VFS is currently a really
complex beast). CoreObject is a lot more simple, but I would state
this simpler design lead to a relatively more complex code from a
conceptual standpoint. I observed this issue with my first prototype
at least.
BTW, is CoreObject available anywhere? I don't see it in the
Etoile repository (or maybe I'm blind). What the current status on
it?
There is an old branch (it's not usable and I don't think the code
even compiles): <http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/etoile/branches/CoreObject/>
But it was still too complex in my opinion, that's why I began
working on a simpler prototype later (still on my hard disk). But for
various reasons I switched my priorities several times in the recent
months. I don't know when I will have time to work on it, it's a high
priority for me though.
With many modules included recently, having a working build and setup
system is more important now I think ;-)
Cheers,
Quentin.
