I'm not completely impressed by the arrow as a visual metaphor.   
Windows uses a + and a - in a box which are similarly uninformative.   
I wonder if we could come up with something better, perhaps a rolled  
up and unrolled scroll?  The open and closed books on the a few online  
scroll views are quire nice too.
