PC-BSD, unfortunately, loses you the 'start with a bare system and add what you need' aspect of FreeBSD. The core system is the same though, so stuff that's tested and works on FreeBSD should also work on PC-BSD. I'd be happy to help with any problems someone building PBIs encounters.
