Since the account hasn't been used for years they might not see the
issue.
Why not go through the commit logs and get their email account and mail
them
asking to give the project that account name.
Why not considering https://bitbucket.org, I like more than GitHub, it
is not popular
but its great.

asking them if they’d be willing to give us their account, as they
haven’t used it in several years.
Failing that, David suggests we take github.com/etoile-project [4],
which I agree with.
