Hi,
I've only recently noticed (I've been snooping around for the past
year or so, sorry :) that there's no planned multimedia (i.e.:
audio, video) framework for Etoile. Has this been discussed or
generally agreed upon? Is there any interest in using gsnd (the
GNUstep sound daemon) in Etoile? Is there any interest in
implementing an open form of Apple's CoreAudio?
(is that even legal?) Has anyone even given any thought to moving
to a more robust audio API than NSSound?
If I could be pointed at a target API, I wouldn't mind writing
Objective-C bindings to gstreamer-0.10 (which I'm decently familiar
with) and implementing the desired API. (In fact, I took a glance
at Apple's CoreAudio documentation, and it's an API to create one-
way graphs of source/sink/filter nodes--which is exactly what
gstreamer is.)
What are your thoughts?
Hi,
On Video framework topic, I would be very glad to have one in Étoilé.
Until now, I was thinking about wrapping Videolan in some basic
classes like NSMovie and NSMovieView. Videolan looks like the most
versatile video library available by the numerous audio and video
codecs it supports. Moreover it works very well in my experience.
I don't know whether it would be possible to wrap it in a more
complete API a la QTKit (Cocoa wrapper around QuickTime). Here is the
link : <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/QuickTime/Cocoa-
date.html>
Perhaps some people have solid arguments in favor of GStreamer ?
Quentin.
