So I have installed Etoile... question tho... I am using the etoile-system session starter... and it does not start any windowmanager... how do I set the windowmanager for it?

after fiddling around with limited success, the following works somewhat for me:

On current etoile svn, there is a etoile.desktop file (in Services/ Private/System), when you copy this to /usr/share/xsessions, a session manager like gdm or kdm and possibly others, too, will offer you "etoile" as a session type. I now have to go "init 5" instead of "startx", but when I do so and select etoile, it gives me pretty much everything I'd expect.

Also, in etoiles' svn main directory, there is now a setup.sh which should do this and a couple of other things for you. In fact, I have used that one.

Whether this works or not probably also depends on your distribution, so your mileage may vary...

Hi,

I haven't yet sent a mail to the list about this new setup.sh script. In fact, I still need to update the related INSTALL file.

But basically to build and install Étoilé, you can now just do:
make
su root // if needed and taking in account 'sudo make install' is broken right now
make install
exit // may be optional
./setup.sh

At this time, I would suggest to avoid running setup.sh from another directory than the one where it's located.

Then you should obtain a fully configured environment (with Nesedah theme, horizontal menu etc.). It's also going to take care of launching GNUstep daemons.

To start an Étoilé session, just type /usr/local/bin/etoile_system& in a xterm (it's important to have no WM running otherwise Azalea won't start). This is not yet possible out of the box if you try to install 'etoile_system' module without root privileges.

If you use GDM or KDM, it's even easier since you have also the possibility to select your 'Étoilé' session directly with it. If the Freedesktop xsession files aren't installed in /usr/share/xsessions on your distro, you will have to copy the file yourself at the right location. Please report it too :-)

Finally you can unset the whole Étoilé environment… by running setdown.sh script. This is useful if you want to run GNUstep applications without Camaelon and WildMenus for example or to uninstall Étoilé completely.

A very important remark now: log out isn't implemented, therefore the only way to log out properly is to kill etoile_system. Not very cool, but that's the trick for now.

Cheers,
Quentin.
