Additionally, what is your development background? Do you have any
Objective-C experience? If not, I'm sure we can point you to some
great resources.
I've done mainly GTK with C and python although it has been a
while. I have time to catch up on objective-c and will appreciate
any resource you can point me to. i've gotten some links from
gnustep.org sofar
The best resource for Objective-C development with Cocoa/GNUstep
frameworks is Apple documentation in my opinion. Cocoa documentation
is now excellent, but don't forget GNUstep isn't always in sync with
Cocoa and Carbon stuff isn't available on GNUstep platforms.
To begin you can read the following guide I think :
CocoaFundamentals/index.html>
On GNUstep website : <http://gnustep.org/developers/documentation.html>
You should gnustep-make documentation : <http://gnustep.org/resources/
documentation/Developer/Make/Manual/make_toc.html>
Base Programming Manual is a good too : <http://gnustep.org/resources/
documentation/Developer/Base/ProgrammingManual/manual_toc.html>
GNUstep API references :
- Foundation : <http://gnustep.org/resources/documentation/Developer/
Base/Reference/index.html>
- AppKit : <http://gnustep.org/resources/documentation/Developer/Gui/
Reference/index.html>
<http://cocoadevcentral.com/> is a good place to start with lot of
nice tutorials.
Here are other very good guides you can read to dig into GNUstep
development :
- Application Architecture : <http://developer.apple.com/
documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/AppArchitecture/index.html>
- Memory Management : <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/
Conceptual/MemoryMgmt/index.html>
- Document based Application : <http://developer.apple.com/
documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/Documents/index.html>
- Event Handling : <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/
Conceptual/EventOverview/index.html>
- Coding Guidelines : <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/
Conceptual/CodingGuidelines/index.html>
- Objective-C Language : <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/
Cocoa/Conceptual/ObjectiveC/index.html>
- Drawing : <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/
Conceptual/CocoaDrawingGuide/index.html>
Many good resources are listed on CocoaDev : <http://cocoadev.com/>
and <http://www.stepwise.com>
If you are interested by books, check :
- <http://www.bignerdranch.com/products/cocoa1.shtml> I learn
Objective-C development with the first edition of this one :-)
- <http://www.cocoaprogramming.net/> this book is outdated but it's
still the only one which covers advanced stuff decently
Cheers,
Quentin.
