I am open-mind on this issue,
but OuterSpace may be repleaced by another one later.
So you can make the icon more generic.

Alternately, if it is going to eventually use the flower icon, we
may want to just swap it so that it uses that now, and change the
flower icon that is there to the Terminal icon, so that it's a bit
more obvious what that will do. I've attached a mockup of what I
was thinking.

I'd vote for option 2. I don't find having the flower launch a
terminal at all intuitive. I'd rather see OuterSpace or something
similar launched from it. Maybe make a terminal another thing that
stays in the dock.

I think this is the best solution for now -- let's always have the file manager/object manager (in this case OuterSpace) launch from the Flower icon. Also, we may want to give it a more generic name (Space or Manager, for example), and even if it's completely rewritten and totally different, "the thing we use to manage documents and apps" keeps the same name and icon.

Same deal with the terminal. Right now, we're just launching xterms (I think), but eventually terminal windows will come from an actual .app. Regardless, they should use the icon that I've provided, for a sense of consistency between releases.
