No, this approach makes sense only for planned long-term activities. 
But you don't want to implement a progress indicator for just opening a 
form which normally takes a second or two but in special - not really 
forseeable - cases 6s - 10s. On MacOSX there is no need to actively 
tell the system that the app will be busy for a few seconds. MacOSX 
realizes this on its own and sets the hourglass accordingly when the 
mouse pointer is over a window or the applications menu.
