I find that very weird, as I can get SILC working from: * a work network, which is heavily firewalled and proxied, * a mobile phone using a heavily NATed 3G network * my normal ISP using my Macbook.
On my macbook used the command line client provided with macports for silc, which is very reliable. I find GUI client painfully buggy. On other platforms, I use Pidgin's plugin. That said, we really should switch away from SILC, as its obscure and has poor client support, both of which are preventing people from connecting. Is an XMPP server suitable for group chat? SILC isn't that active, there are like 2-4 different people popping in for most of the time but they usually discuss useful stuffs.
